Both are capable, widely used CMSs. The right choice depends less on features and more on what your content and team look like.
Where WordPress fits
- Blogs, brochure sites and small marketing sites
- Teams that want to launch quickly and rely on themes and plugins
- Editors who are already familiar with it
Where Drupal fits
- Structured content with many types and relationships
- Fine-grained roles, permissions and editorial workflows
- Multilingual sites, since language support is part of core
- Sites that expose content through APIs to other systems
- Organisations that need a clear security process
Costs to compare
WordPress is often cheaper to start, but plugin sprawl can add maintenance and security work later. Drupal usually takes more to set up, then pays back where content rules and permissions are complex.
A quick test
If your content fits into pages and posts, WordPress will probably do. If you find yourself drawing a diagram of content types and who may edit what, Drupal is worth a serious look.
We build on Drupal, but we will tell you if a simpler tool fits your project better.
